The Larkrise Little Tree Library, refurbished in early 2021, is located between the Year 3 and Year 6 classrooms, visible from the path in front of the staff car park.

Teachers bring their class to browse and borrow books on weekday afternoons during school time.

The library is also open to families once a week after school on Tuesdays from 3:15 to 4:30pm during term time. Entry is through the side door of the Year 6 Red Kite Classroom: from the main playground, head towards the rear gate that exits to the path between the school and the nature reserve, before the gate turn left into the Peace Garden, head up the path towards the front of the school and staff car park, enter through the glass door to the Year 6 Red Kite classroom, and walk straight through to the Little Tree Library.

The library relies on parent/carer volunteers to help:

  • children find and return books when they visit during school hours;
  • open the library to families one day per week after school;
  • use the barcode scanner to borrow and return books;
  • catalogue and cover new books;
  • retire old or worn books to The Book Nook (which stores books that can be taken to read outside at break times, or taken home by children indefinitely);
  • create themed displays that rotate on a weekly/fortnightly basis; and
  • generally keep the library area tidy.

Once you have completed any required DBS checks and safeguarding training organized by the school, volunteers can sign up for available slots on an online roster.

We really need more volunteers to help. Please contact Camilla Ip for more information.
